Mooresville commissioners are considering ending their financial support of the service starting July 1.
The Charlotte Area Transit System, which runs the buses, requires communities outside Mecklenburg County to help contribute to the cost of routes outside the county.
Many 83X riders have urged the town board to continue supporting the route, saying it helps reduce Interstate 77 congestion, improves air quality and helps economic development.
Opponents say the town shouldn't subsidize a service that benefits some people who live outside town limits and don't pay town taxes.
